近期我們研究團隊主要致力於利用環保量子點發展高效能太陽能聚光器,以期未來更進一步結合太陽能電池製作太陽能玻璃。我們目前的研究工作聚焦在太陽能聚光器所面臨的挑戰,主要包含再吸收損失及固態之發光效率,為了應付這些問題,我們採取了一些策略來調控激態動態過程及光物理性質,如表面官能基改質、界面鏈結、基質材料效應等。藉由這些方法,我們成功改善了太陽能聚光器效率,並且已將實驗成果發表或投稿至高品質國際頂尖期刊,然而考量實際在全天候之應用,未來仍有一些挑戰必需克服,如高濃度之量子效率、殘餘的再吸收損失、戶外穩定度,以期實現高效率及高穩度太陽能玻璃。

我認為要發表研究成果在頂尖的期刊,並且成為世界領先的研究群,主要有兩個重要因素:其一是持續鑽研在同一個跨領域的主題;其二為必需了解研究問題之基礎成因,此外研究人力在產出好數據也扮演重要角色,因此我們需要激起學生研究及學習的熱情。在另一方面,由於私立大學在經費及人力的限制,因此不同專長的研究團隊必需要合作一個跨領域主題並且長期深耕,我也建議儀器設備資源也可以共享,我相信如果老師及學生都能享受,本校研究能量必能提升。

Recently, my group makes a lot of efforts on the development of efficient luminescent solar concentrators based on "green" quantum dots, which can be further integrated with conventional solar cells to form novel solar windows/glasses. We mainly focus on the issues regarding the reabsorption losses and solid-state quantum yields, which are the main challenges for preparing large-area luminescent solar concentrators. To address those two issues, several strategies based on surface-ligand engineering, interface crosslinking, and host material effect have employed to tailor the electronic state dynamics and relevant photophysical properties. Indeed, we have successfully improved the optical efficiency of the luminescent solar concentrators by reducing the reabsorption losses and enhancing the solid-state quantum yields with some extents. The relevant works were published or have been submitted to the high-quality Journals (ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Solar RRL, Advanced Sciences...). However, for practical utilization under all-weathering condition, some challenges still need to be overcome in the future, such as emission quenching at high loading contents, residual reabsorption, and outdoor stability, so as to realize efficient and stable solar glasses.

In my opinion, two points are most critical for becoming the leading groups and publishing the journals with high impact factor; (1) persistently focusing on the same interdisciplinary topics, (2) unraveling the fundamental mechanism behind the research issues. In addition, the manpower also plays an important role in making the good data. As a result, we need to stimulate the passion for the students in learning and research. On the other hand, due to limited resources in the private university, including funding and manpower, the cooperation between different groups with distinct expertise is also demanded. I also suggested we can share our own facilities with other faculties. I am convinced that enjoining the research work for both faculties and students can raise the research performance in our university.
