以精密塑膠模具和射出成型為示範建置符合國際工業4.0標準的智慧製造示範工廠所需各項技術包括物聯網、大數據、機器人與自動化、網實整合系統(CPS)、3D 列印與 AI 所組成的集成技術。此外，在射出成型技術將精實綠色(節能、節料、環保)成型技術並延伸至金屬粉末和陶瓷粉末射出領域，開創5G、奈米晶片散熱模組以及生醫裝置之應用。

智造中心之研究領域主要針對工業4.0智慧製造進行研究開發，其整合了傳統機械之製造技術及資訊工程、管理的跨領域學科，打造屬於新時代生產技術之學術能量。此跨領域整合研究是基於近10年之發展與耕耘，從模具與射出成型專業知識出發，累積超過數年之理論基礎始建立相關資訊化知識庫，並打造以知識驅動的製造整合平台。在此10年發展中協助導入多個企業提升其應用可靠度，並進一步開發企業所需之多功能解決方案，符合現代以需求為導向的教育趨勢，培訓及訓練研發團隊對於此領域更深化之研究理論技術。中心另一發展領域則為工業應用之人工智能技術開發，並導入既有智能自動化製造產線將智慧製造領域推向全新領域。

R&D Center for Smart Manufacturing of CYCU (SMC) is a multi-functional resource center for providing practical technology development and technical service including industry-academic cooperation project, professional training program, and talent cultivation support. The center based on Industry 4.0 concept and technology applied to mold and molding industry which can provide unique smart manufacturing solution for fully smart automatic manufacturing process. The first complete smart production line has been built for mold and molding industry in the center to demonstrate the new generation manufacturing as a machine learning based process. This brings about the opportunity to link with industrial company in practical production example as well as the teaching program for new generation talent.

The research field of R&D Center for Smart Manufacturing is cross-disciplinary study on the traditional mechanical theory with information technology and management. Based on the knowledge of mold and molding research during past 20 to 30 years, the research group develops several spectacular technologies and accumulating grand of data. This initiates the research of knowledge-based driven service platform, which is integration of manufacturing knowledge with information technology. Research group start to development a number of unique function solution for mold and molding industry. Artificial intelligent (AI) technology, on the other hand, is another development field mainly for industry purpose, and believing that the AI solution can bring about the new generation of industry technology.
